ViriCiti proud supplier of monitoring system e-buses Schiphol
Yesterday afternoon, Schiphol celebrated the official completion and commissioning of their e-bus project: 35 electric BYD buses, transporting travelers from aircraft to gate. It is one of the largest e-bus fleets in Europe. ViriCiti is the proud supplier of the monitoring system - implemented in all 35 buses - used to monitor and analyse the vehicle data on a daily basis.
With ViriCiti's cloud services, Schiphol is able to monitor the real-time status of all vehicles and calculate important KPI's such as battery status, energy usage and driving efficiency. This enables the Schiphol Tower to set up a detailed planning and to deploy the buses in the most efficient way, with optimal use of the battery. The system thus provides insights into the remaining range and ensures that there is always sufficient energy to drive the planned routes. This eliminates any range anxiety of the driver and the Tower.
Not only does the system show insights into energy usage, it also calculates savings and the sustainability of the buses. After the test period the total mileage of the buses is now close to 338.000 kilometers with an average energy consumption of 1.2 kWh/km. This leads to a saving of approximately 119.000 liters of diesel compared to regular diesel buses*. This means that, by driving electric, Schiphol has already saved 312.000 kilograms of CO2 emissions.
ViriCiti and BYD
The Schiphol project was the first large scale project for ViriCiti in collaboration with BYD. Besides Schiphol, ViriCiti also monitors several other electric BYD fleets, such as the six buses on Schiermonnikoog and the 23 buses at Stanford University, California.
